The 5 Imperatives of Wisdom Part 1 Intro

In my Study in the book of Proverbs I have uncovered 5 Imperatives to Wisdom. If you do not embrace each of these Imperatives you will not have the Lords wisdom active in your life. God in tends for you to Grow in Wisdom and his plan for your life requires it.

The Fist thing I notice is in verse 3 I see that Proverbs provides for a Successful life. This is Great news since I see that indeed God intends that I be Successful. I have to remember that God measures success by whether or not I was obedient to him.

Next I see that he wants me to live a disciplined life. That word disipline is really cool in the Hebrew.

This word Musar is what is translated Discipline in the NIV and carries with it some cool meaning. The one that is most important to me right now Is that it puts responsibility for learning on the student. Here are some facets of Musar.
  • Connotes authority to whom the disciple must submit i.e. have humility.
  • Entials shaping character and is directly associated with tokahat or reproof and tora (teaching. )
  • The root is ysr or "to Chastise" always for educational puropse and is never used in relaion to animals or nations.
  • Where Musar means to learn by chastisment or beating, it can be gained by reflecting on the  experience and pain of others.  (pr 19.25 24.32 Det 11.2 ez 5.15
  • Musar learned this way prevents acts of folly
  • Means instruct reprove and chastise beat.

We also see in this word that it is the responsibility of the student to learn. What is my part? That is where the 5 Imperatives come in.
